Kathmandu, September 3 The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today wrote to the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, directing it not to increase the quota for children of employees working with it for MBBS and Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery programs. A press statement issued by the anti-graft body stated that the directive was issued as per Section 28 of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act, 1991. “Existing quota for the children of employees of the Institute of Medicine is appropriate as the increase in quota would deprive hundreds of other candidates aspiring to study MBBS and BAMS the opportunity,” read the statement issued by the CIAA. The anti-graft body has also informed the Nepal Medical Council, Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor and the Ministry of Education about its directive to the IoM. The directive follows a recent decision by the faculty board of the Institute of Medicine to increase the quota for the children of IoM employees to two seats from the existing one seat in MBBS program.
