Manchester, September 13 Australia beat England by eight wickets in their fifth and final one-day international at Old Trafford on Sunday to win the series 3-2. The result had looked inevitable long before lunch, with England dismissed for just 138 and captain Eoin Morgan retiring hurt after being hit on the head by a bouncer from Australia’s Mitchell Starc in the seventh over.England had already been reduced to 22-3 in the sixth over and were all out in 33 overs. Australia, who had Aaron Finch 70 not out in a 109-run partnership with George Bailey, then cruised to victory inside 25 overs to take some consolation for losing the Ashes 3-2 earlier in the summer. Fielders had rushed to help Morgan after he was struck on the back of the head, with the captain treated for concussion and replaced by Jonny Bairstow. Starc was visibly shaken by the incident. Last November, Australian international Phillip Hughes died two days after being struck on the head by a ball while he was batting in a first-class state match in Sydney.
