Gairathok bus accident death toll reaches eight

Ramechhap, September 19 With two more persons succumbing to their injuries, the death toll from Friday’s bus accident in Ramechhap, Manthali, has reached eight today. Earlier, six persons were reported killed on the spot and over 40 injured when a commuter bus en route to Gothgaun from the district headquarters Manthali veered off the road at Manthali-7, Gairathok on Friday evening. Of the injured, Krishna Karki,28, of Gothgaun-7 and Setumaya Shrestha,65, of Gothgaun-7 breathed their last while receiving treatment at Manthali based hospital today. Twenty-five of the seriously injured passengers have been rushed to capital for treatment, whereas other ten injured are receiving treatment at various health centers in Manthali. Meanwhile, kin of those killed in the accident enforced a chakkajam in Manthali today seeking compensation. They also demanded free treatment for the injured. The agitators accused the Araniko Transportation Committee of being indifferent towards the treatment of the injured. Vehicular movement, however, resumed from the evening following an agreement between the local administration and agitating relatives of the accident victims. According to DSP Mohan Pariyar of the District Police Office, Ramechhap, the transportation committee has agreed to provide the families of the deceased Rs 2.5 million each and assist the treatment of the injured.
