Man held for swindling Canada job aspirants

POKHARA: Police have arrested a man for defrauding people of millions of rupees assuring them of lucrative jobs in Canada. The suspect has been identified as Dhan Bahadur Fadera (20) of Sarkideu VDC-4 of Humla. Posing himself as the Secretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD), Ram Bahadur had swindled five persons of 8.1 million, police said. The victims have been identified as Laxmi Gurung, her son Sandeep Gurung, son-in-law Kiran Gurung, niece Dipa Gurng and neighour Baikuntha Basnet of Batulechaur, Pokhara. According to a complaint lodged with police, Ram Bahadur coughed up the money assuring the victims that he would send them to Canada under the quota system of the MoAD. The victims filed the complaint against Ram Bahadur after police arrested him from Narayangarh, Chitwan, on charge of gambling, a week ago. According to DSP Govinda Adhikari of the District Police Office, Kaski, he had collected Rs 2.4 million from Dipa, Rs 2 million from Kiran, Rs 1 million from Baikuntha and Rs 2.7 million from Laxmi. Laxmi and Dhan Bahadur had met for the first time at Gongabu of Kathmandu after the April 25 devastating earthquake.
