BIRGUNJ: Two leaders of Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party – the central General Secretary, Jitendra Sonal, and the district committee chairman of Bara, Nawal Kishor Singh – who face public offence charges for arson of public vehicles have been sent to jail on Sunday as they failed to post bail as sought by the District Administration Office, Bara. The Chief District Officer of Bara, Bal Krishna Panthi, had sought Rs 1,49,375 each from the two leaders as bail for their release. Sonal and Singh refused to post the bail, claiming that they were involved in peaceful protest but police falsely charged them with arson and vandalism. As they did not post the bail, they were sent to jail in Birgunj of neighbouring Parsa district, according to the DAO, Bara. They were detained on September 15 on charge of vandalising and setting abraze trucks parked in the premises of Saurav Enterprises at Lipanimal-9, Bara.
