Dharan, July 4:
A group of players belonging to Dharan Golf Club have urged the local residents to help in preserving Asia’s first golf course which might have to close shop due to the current state of neglect. The condition of the golf course, situated on the premise of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), is worsening each day. Therefore, the players have been compelled to seek public support in preserving this place which once used to rank among the top 10 golf courses in the world. “This golf course is our pride and if we neglect it, its very existence can be threatened,” said Keshar Limbu, the club’s president. The BPKIHS had leased golf course to a commercial organisation called Nirwan Country Club in 2001.
