Bajura, November 16 Residents of the high climate change-prone areas of Bajura have come forward to fight the effects of climate change. The government, a few years ago, had introduced a programme here with a view to mitigate the effects of climate change. According to District Development Committee Bajura Executive Secretary Nir Bahadur Shahi, a climate change support programme was introduced in the crisis-hit areas of the district about three years ago in view of the welfare of the people living in areas that are at high risk of the effects of climate change. “The programme is being implemented in Kailashmandau, Jugada, Sappata, Brahmatola, Kuldevmandau, Martadi, Wai, Janannath VDCs that have been witnessing much too frequent flooding, landslide, drought and the likes in recent days, apparently due to the effects of climate change” said secretary Shahi. Chandra Bahadur Thapa of Brahmatola VDC informed about the awareness campaign among the public. “Besides spreading awareness among the public about the topic, there are discussions being held over ways to lessen the effects of climate change,” he said, adding, food cooperatives have been set up to cope with possible food crisis here and in other concerned VDCs. Government is also incorporating programmes like afforestation, landslide prevention and water sources conservation, among others.
