KATHMANDU: In the run-up to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China visit to begin on Sunday, leaders of various political parties have urged the PM to make the visit a success. They have suggested focusing on Nepal’s economic development and further strengthening relations between Nepal and China during the visit. They made such suggestions at a meeting held today with leaders of various political parties to hold discussion on the visit. Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Lokendra Bahadur Chand told media persons after the meeting that he urged PM Oli to make efforts to open other remaining border points with China and work to bring in investment for economic development of Nepal. Likewise, CPN-UML chief whip Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal said that the participants suggested PM Oli to initiate efforts to expand railway and carry out hydropower development during the visit. Similarly, UCPN-Maoist General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara informed that he urged the PM to focus his China visit on Nepal’s greater interests. It is learned that Nepali Congress leaders failed to take part in the meeting due to the party's Central Working Committee meeting. Oli, however, had met NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba this morning and discussed the China visit agendas. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also briefed the International Relations and Labour Committee of the Parliament about the visit today itself. At the meeting, Oli said Nepal-China relations would gain new heights during his visit. The lawmakers at the meeting had urged the PM to raise issues of Lipulek Pass after necessary homework, Karnali Hydropower Project and research on excavation of oil, among others.
