KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday morning obstructed armed conflict victims from staging a protest programme in front of the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on the occasion of the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. Right activist Charan Prasai, who was at the venue during the police action, said police dispersed the mob with the use of force and detained some of them. 'Five including I were taken to the Kamalpokhari-based Metropolitan Police Circle,' he told THT Online over phone, 'We were released after one and half hours.' The activist informed that those displaced by the armed conflict, members of the families whose members had disappeared during the conflict and former Maoist combatants lebelled 'disqualified' among others had gathered in front of the PM's residence. Around a dozen protesters sustained minor injuries in the police action, he added. 'We had just planned to stage a sit-in demanding truth over all these issues,' informed Prasai. The Day is being celebrated on March 24 every year since 2010 upon a call from the United Nations General Assembly.
