Birgunj UDMF demo to foil Dahal's programme

BIRGUNJ: Tension ran high in Adharsanagar of Birgunj after the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) cadres vandalised entrance gates prepared for the second Birgunj Trade Fair. UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was scheduled to inaugurate the fair. UDMF cadres have been staging demonstrations outside the venue since this morning. A large number of security personnel have been deployed outside the venue. It has been learned that police have arrested 10 protesters including three women to control the situation. One of the detainees has been identified as Rajesh Man Singh, central member of the National Madhes Socialist party. 'I'm fighting for Madhes' Meanwhile, Dahal said he was fighting for the cause of Madhes. He said his party was struggling to establish rights of the Madhesi, argued Dahal addressing the inaugural. Talking to mediapersons during the inaugural function of  fair, Dahal said that the agreements signed with China during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to the northern neighbour would have a long-term importance in the economic development of Nepal.
