Sri Lanka win First South Asian Women’s Basketball Championship, Nepal second

KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka bagged the First South Asian Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday. Sri Lanka thrashed Nepal, 15-11, 20-13, 17-16 and 23-9 with the difference of 75-49 in the final competition of Women’s Basketball competition held at Covered Hall of National Sports Council in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu. The first South Asian Women’s Basketball Competition was held in the participation of five countries. Maldives stand at third position while Bhutan at fourth followed by Bangladesh. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Bhim Rawal, President of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevanram Shrestha, Member-Secretary of National Sports Council Keshav Kumar Bista and others awarded trophies to the participated teams. Nepal Basketball Association has decided to honour the second finisher Nepali women's  basketball team with Rs 150,00, although there is no cash prize for the winner of the First South Asian Women’s Basketball Championship.
