KATHMANDU: A sit-in protest was staged at Baluwatar the nine-point agreement that the CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist recently struck regarding the conflict era cases and transitional justice, on Wednesday morning.
Rights activists and conflict victims gathered outside the Prime Minister's official residence and protested the agreement between the two ruling parties, demanding that it be scrapped.
According to them, the agreement intended to affect the transitional justice process and its implementation will promote impunity in Nepal.
After the UCPN-Maoist renewed its support to the CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli-led government and saved it from toppling, the two parties had formally made a deal which included an understanding to withdraw conflict era cases and grant amnesty to those accused.
Conflict victims and rights activists, on the other hand, have been raised their voice against the agreement, saying amnesty cannot be granted for heinous crimes such as murder, rape, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
