RAMJI RANA LAMJUNG: An expedition team that was trapped in the mountains in western Nepal following a snowstorm on Friday was rescued today. The team included two German climbers and 18 Nepalis, who were mountain guides and support staff. The team was descending towards Manang after the expedition of Saribung Peak in the Upper Mustang. According to the Manang District Administration Office, the rescued Germans are Tobias Groenen (48) and his wife Gudrun Ingrid Ziermann (44). The German nationals and two Nepalis, who sought serious medical attention, were airlifted to Kathmandu on a Simrik Air chopper today, according to the Chief District Officer of Manang, Bhimkanta Sharma. The two Nepalis are identified as Aaite Tamang and Hom Tamang of Nuwakot. The four were taken to Vayodha Hospital in Kathmandu for medical checkup. Using helicopter flight rescue system that included long-line rope, all 20 persons were rescued to safety to Fu in Manang one-by-one. Other Nepalis, who are in good health, are heading towards Chame from Fu of Manang, CDO Sharma informed. The team was returning after trekking to the Damodar Kunda and climbing Saribung Peak when it was hit by snowstorm yesterday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagannath Gautam said. Stranded climbers, support staff rescued from Saribung Peak
THT ONLINE KATHMANDU: All 20 people, including two German nationals, were rescued from the Saribung Peak region this afternoon. Friends Adventure Team Pvt. Ltd's Managing Director Dipendra Bahadur Lama informed that its two German clients and two support staff, who were injured in the incident, have been airlifted to Kathmandu. The Germans have been identified as Tobias Groenen and his wife Gudrun Ziermann. The two German climbers, their mountain guides and support staff were stuck in the mountain's base camp region following a strong snowstorm. The team was returning after climbing the Saribung Peak. Snowstorm had hit the tents and left the people stranded on the foothills of the mountain. They were rescued by the long rope rescue team, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.
