Injured one-horned rhino recovering

CHITWAN: A rare one-horned rhino which was found with six bullet injuries at a forest of Rautahat district is recuperating now. The male rhino aged around 15 years was rescued and taken to Janakauli forest nearby Sauraha by the Chitwan National Park on August 21. With due care and treatment, the injured rhino is regaining its life and has increased its activities, informed officials at the Park. A technical team comprising the CNP and the Nepal Army personnel has been tending the injured rhino in Sauraha. Also, a team has been assigned to monitor the situation of wounded rhino round the clock, added CNP Chief Ram Chandra Kandel. According to Chandrapur Area Police Office, the rhino had got severe injuries from bullets fired by poachers who attacked the wild animal to take out its horn on August 20 night. Recently, on the World Environment Day, the Chitwan National Park had marked zero poaching to celebrate the fact that the park had not witnessed a single case of wildlife poaching for two consecutive years.
