Once Upon a Time in Mexico HH

Director: Robert Rodriguez

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Enrique Iglesias

Take a shot at this movie. It totally misses the bull’s eye. You’ve got to be pretty desperate to watch the sequel to ‘Desparado’. Johnny Depp certainly “Mexi-can’t” and Antonio Banderas is a legend that oozes style while Salma Hayek is literally “drop-dead” gorgeous.

Based on the story of drug lord Barillo, the bad guys (are there any good guy in the movie really?) are after him because Barillo wants to overthrow the Mexican Presidente and assume power.

Take a second shot at this movie. Gun shot, guitar shot, whatever. Once upon a time music may have been for peace but in ‘…Mexico’ guitar certainly isn’t. El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) swaggers about the movie strumming sweet tunes on his six string until he wields them to play on those after him. This is one guy tuned in for revenge and Sands (Johnny Depp) has hired him to kill General Marquez, the man that killed El’s wife and child.

Sands is a CIA agent who has a penchant for pork and mobile phones. Suave and sophisticated he seems a bit of a pusher with his false arm until they gouge out his eyes. Then, like Samson, he falls but does not die. He maybe blind but he is a pretty good shot with a desperate look.

As for Enrique Iglesias who makes the trio in El’s team, the “Hero” singer should stick to singing. He’s certainly not a hero here. One-hour and 50 minutes of meaningless violence, classic stunts and style. Desparado anyone? — Himalayan News Service
