Jhapa stun NPC; MMC in last eight

Chitwan, October 19 Jhapa-XI outplayed Nepal Police Club 3-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the Tuborg Bikash Running Shield International Invitational Football Tournament here at the Campachaur grounds today. Bikash Rai put Jhapa ahead in the 25th minute before NPC’s Mir Kumar Rai levelled the tally in the 44th minute. Prashant Magar retained the lead for Jhapa in the 59th minute and Bikash Limbu extended the advantage in 66th minute. Jumanu Rai scored in the 77th minute but that was not enough for the Policemen to avert the loss. Jhapa’s Bikash Limbu was adjudged the player-of-the-match and earned Rs 10,000. Similarly, Kathmandu-based Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) thrashed 10-man United Club Siwan of India 4-1 to sail into the last eight. MMC took the lead in 25th minute through African recruit Olawale’s goal and Bimal Basnet doubled the lead two minutes later before Siwan’s Ranjit Ale cut the deficit in the 39th minute. MMC netted two more goals after the interval to send the Indian side packing home. Olawale scored his second goal in the 55th minute to make it 3-1. Siwan were restricted to 10 men after skipper Janak Karki received the red card in the 79th minute. Sajan Maharjan scored fourth goal for MMC in the 86th minute. Player-of-the-match Olawale received Rs 10,000.
