Kathmandu As the festive season wears off, it shows how the market of smartphones have boomed. The Nepali market was flooded with offers and schemes on home appliances, kitchen appliances, smartphones and many more. Festive sales increase dramatically every year as people purchase gifts, decorations, and supplies to celebrate. Keeping this in mind various brands announced their offers and schemes a few weeks before Dashain. Each brand came up with their own unique and attractive offers including scratch cards, lucky draws or instant benefit through discount on purchase of a smartphone. The mobile companies put out these offers on some specific models or on all of their ranges of smartphones. Sameer Dhungana, Marketing Manager at Tele Talk Pvt Ltd says, “This festive season we witnessed ground breaking sales on our smartphones. We achieved our target with all the phones going out of stock.” Samsung, one of the leading smartphone companies in Nepal offered ‘Special Saving’ offer in J Series, A series and Galaxy S7 edge, tablets and Gear S series with discount. Apart from the instant benefits, Samsung’s ‘Harek Din Lakhpati’ promotion prior to the festival that offered exciting gifts and rewarding customers with a cash prize of Rs one Lakh every day through lucky draw. Pranaya Ratna Sthapit, Head of Mobile Division at Samsung Nepal says, “The promotion was an instant hit as consumers responded well to the ‘Special Saving’ and the ‘Harek Din Lakhapati’ promotion. What worked was the idea of instant saving benefits at the time of purchase; buyers had something to look forward to as a windfall gain which was daily broadcasted live on our Facebook page.” Xiaomi — relatively a new name in the Nepali market for smartphones — provided gift hampers like their Mi Tv, Mi 5 AND Mi 4 smartphones, Bluetooth speakers, Mi band, power bank, silver coins and more during the festive season. According to company sources, “It has just been seven months that we have started selling Mi products in Nepal officially and we were overwhelmed by its popularity. So we wanted to give something back to our customers and the festival season was the perfect time to do that. This also helped us boost our sales creating a record break.” Similarly Summit Pradhananga, Marketing Manager at Huawei Technologies also says, “Our expectation was to sell at least three times more than last year but our sales pleasantly surprised us. Through preliminary data we can confidently claim that 45,000 to 50,000 units were successfully sold this Dashain all over Nepal in a matter of just four weeks.” Huawei’s festive campaign ‘Prize Ek Sa Ek, Yo Dashain Bhagya Shali Anek’ offered exciting gifts every week, fortnight on purchase of all Huawei smartphones. When asked about their expectation for Huawei phones in the future, Pradhananga answered, “Currently as per the market feedback, acceptance level by Nepali consumers is high as ever. We can proudly say we are the fastest growing smartphone brand.”
