Kathmandu, December 13 Ratnajit Tamang and Bishnu Katwal of Nepal registered victories on the inaugural day matches of the WBF Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Series, while Dipesh Dhami earned a walkover win here at the National Sports Council covered hall today. Out of the 18 matches that involved local players including one doubles game, Nepali shuttlers lost 15 on the first day of the tournament. Tamang defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan Saeed Bhatti 21-16, 25-23 in the men’s singles first round match. Katwal beat Moajjam Hossain 21-19, 21-15 and Dhami advanced to the second round without entering the court after his Indonesian opponent Imam Adi Kusuma Atmaja withdrew from the tournament. In other matches, Irfan Ansari lost to Bangladesh’s Tushar Krishna Roy 21-12, 21-8, Suman Limbu faced a 21-2, 21-11 defeat at the hands of Duc Phat Le of Vietnam, Deepak Bohara lost 23-21, 21-10 against India’s Aman Kumar and Bijeet Thapa Magar suffered a 21-10, 22-20 loss against India’s Siddharath Thakur. Likewise, Josef Adhikari lost 21-6, 21-10 against India’s Amir Jabbari, whereas Sajan Krishna Tamrakar retired while trailing 11-4 in the first set against Cao Cuong Pham of Vietnam. Bhugol Gurung faced a 21-10, 21-5 loss against Bangladesh’s Mohammad Salman Khan, while Sudeep Sedhai won the first set 21-19 before going down by 18-21 and 9-21 in the next two. Also, Sanjeev Khadka lost to India’s Abhishek Yelegar 21-17, 21-15. Likewise, Vietnam’s Quang Huy Dang came from a set down to beat Bangladesh’s Md Anamul Haque 16-21, 21-14, 21-15. In women’s singles, four Nepali players Nangshal Devi Tamang, Sichhya Shrestha, Amita Giri and Megha Chand had first round byes, while four others lost their matches. Sunaina Mukhiya faced a 26-24, 21-9 defeat against Alina Sultana of Bangladesh, while Shova Gauchan lost to Pakistan’s Palwasha Bashir 21-6, 21-8. Likewise, Anu Laya Rai went down to Devi Yunita Indah Sari of Indonesia by 21-6, 21-15 and Jessica Gurung suffered a 21-15, 21-18 loss at the hands of Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail of the Maldives. In mixed doubles, Dipesh Dhami and Pooja Shrestha faced a 21-18, 20-22, 21-8 loss against Indian duo of Rajesh Krishnan Navaneethakrishnan and B Venkata Ramya Tulasi Bailupudi, while three Nepali pairs of Nangshal Devi Tamang /Ratnajit Tamang, Bijeet Thapa Magar/ Sichhya Shrestha, and Bishnu Katwal/Amita Giri had first round byes. A total of 72 players from nine countries are taking part in five events. Earlier, Minister for Supplies Deepak Bohara inaugurated the five-day tournament.
