BAJURA: Life of locals in the Badimalika Municipality is expected to get a facelift after a new ropeway service came into operation for the transport of goods. Forced to act as porters since generations, locals of Badimalika can now deliver local products including potatoes, maize, soya beans, pumpkins, dairy products to the market within two minutes. Earlier, they had to carry the loads on their backs and walk for five hours. The ropeway was inaugurated by former Minister for Industry and lawmaker elected from the district Karna Bahadur Thapa. According to Badimalika Gravity Ropeway Construction Committee Chair Chakra Saud, the ropeway is 908 metre long and operates at a slope of 34 degree. It stretches from the Tipada Bazaar to Mana Village of Badimalika Municipality. From the bottom station in Tipada, a load of 40 kg can be sent to Mana at once while the weight ceiling for the descent is 90 kg, informed Human Resource Centre (HRC) Bajura Chair Nir Bahadur Shahi. The ropeway was installed with the help of the Bajura District Agricultural Development Office, HRC Bajura, European Union, Practical Action and locals.
