Kathmandu, August 20 Dr Govinda KC, an orthopaedic surgeon, who has been demanding reforms in the medical education and health sectors, today said he would launch a fresh hunger strike if the decision to grant affiliation to National Medical College, Ghattekulo, was not revoked immediately. Tribhuvan University executive committee granted affiliation to the college on July 27. Despite the government’s agreement with Dr KC, the TU executive committee gave affiliation to National Medical College.“It is a shameful act,” Dr KC said, adding the Supreme Court’s order was misinterpreted. The doctor also said that it would be unacceptable to him if the Medical Education Bill was passed without incorporating the recommendations made by the Mathema-led panel. Dr KC has been staging hunger strike time and again against irregularities in the medical education and health sector. Among other things, he has been demanding that Institute of Medicine under Trubhuvan University be given the power to determine the number of seats and fee structure of medical colleges. He had postponed his 11th fast-unto-death on the 23rd day on August 15, citing floods and landslides across the country. READ ALSO:
