Kathmandu, September 11 Cricketer Padam Bahadur Badela won the Para-athlete of the Year award at the Pulsar Sports Award 2073 here today. Badela, who lost his one eye in childhood, came into limelight when he scored double century in Nepal’s 141-run victory over New Zealand in the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup held in India. Badela scored 211 runs in the match as Nepal posted 315 runs on the board. Man-of-the-match Badela also became the only batsman to score double century in the tournament. The 22-year-old Badela started playing cricket six years ago and has represented country in three international tournaments. Badela, who also played Blind T20 Asia Cup in India last year, had played the Blind World Cup five years ago as well. Badela said it was not only his award but of the whole cricket team. “I would like to thank Nepal Sports Journalists Forum and the sponsors as well as Cricket Association of Blind, Nepal and skipper Kritan Shrestha Duwal. Actually the award is not only mine it belongs to whole team,” said Badela. Badela received trophy along with Rs 50,000. CEO of Avenues TV Samriddhi Rajkarnikar and Chairman of Sahas Sports Janak Neupane handed over the trophy to Badela.
