Two NC leaders held
POKHARA: Security personnel on Monday arrested two Nepali Congress (NC) leaders of the Kaski district. According to the party, Plainclothes security men arrested Yagya Bahadur Thapa, Kaski district president of the party, from his residence at Bijaypur in Lekhnath municipality-5 and Chandramani Poudel, party joint-secretary, from his office. — HNS
Forces defuse bombs
DANG: Security forces on Sunday night defused two bombs planted by Maoists in the house of the Dang DDC chairman, Dinesh Bahadur Neupane, at Tribhuvannagar Municipality–11. The Maoists had asked everyone in the house to move out and cut the telephone line before planting the bombs in the kitchen and the living room of the house, Neupane’s family source said. Meanwhile, the Maoists exploded two bombs at Ghorahi bazaar on Sunday night. — HNS
Stray bomb hurts kid
DHANUSHA: A child was seriously injured on Sunday when an unattended bomb left by the Maoists went off when he was playing with it. Jitendra Saha (10), the son of Shivaji Saha, a resident of Rupaitha VDC, was injured when he was playing with the bomb. He is undergoing treatment at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital. — RSS
RPP leader quits party
BIDUR: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) district committee president Dhanaraj Khadka tendered his resignation from his post and general membership of the party citing
split and ideological deviation in the party. He said he would lead an independent life without affiliation to any party. — RSS
Cetificates for winners
GORKHA: District Election Office, Gorkha, gave away certificates to unanimously elected mayor, deputy mayor, ward chairmen and ward members of Prithvi Narayan municipality on Monday. District Election Officer and Chief District Officer Tara Nath Gautam gave away the certificates to mayor and deputy mayor Mana Bahadur Shrestha and Ram Kumar Shrestha respectively and ward chairmen Deepak Yogi, Ajit Babu Shrestha, Hari Bahadur Rayamajhi, Khil Bahadur Khatri, and Amar Bahadur Kunwar Yogi. — RSS
Mayor’s promises
DAMAULI: The unanimously elected mayor of the Byas Municipality, Sundar Bahadur Gurung, on Sunday expressed commitment to develop the municipality as a model municipality. Speaking with the representative of RSS on Sunday, Gurung said he had filed the candidacy to work for the people. Noting that he had previously worked as a nominated deputy mayor of the municipality, he said he would move ahead with the task of mobilizing the youths, and take initiatives for the construction of dumping site, drains and road. — RSS
Tharu feature film
BIRATNAGAR: Vice-chairman of the Morang DDC Shailendra Bahadur Basnet declared open a feature film in Tharu language - Hamare Dil Chorilke Acharawali. The production of the film is underway which is being produced by the Chandani Films, Biratnagar, with the assistance of Tharu Cultural Forum, Sunsari-Morang. The film is set to encompass Tharu religion, culture, tradition, language and customs. — RSS
