Kathmandu, January 30:
Various human rights and civil society organisations are set to hold demonstrations in the UK and Thailand to protest against the King Gyanendra assuming executive power on February 1 last year.
The Britain Nepal Democratic Society (BNDS) along with Nepali Samaj UK and other organisations are to hold a peaceful demonstration at the Parliamentary Square in London on February 1.
The objective is to call on the international community to use its collective influence to get the king to denounce his “autocratic regime,” said a BNDS release issued today. The protest is being organised to support the “ongoing movement” in Nepal.
Similarly, representatives of the civil society in Thailand plan to hold a demo in front of the Nepali embassy in Bangkok on February 1. They plan to submit a memorandum to the king through the Embassy. A joint appeal to the king and the Maoists endorsed by over 40 civil society organisations around the world will be submitted to the embassy, said a statement issued by the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development.
