HETAUDA: The Kailash Rural Municipality of Makawanpur district has decided to provide Rs 51,000 to bring the body of a Nepali woman who reportedly committed suicide about three months ago in Iraq. Laxmi Bal (26) of Baikuntha, Kailash Rural Municipality-2 had been living in Iraq as a migrant worker. As the Bal family had been living under the poverty level in Nepal, she had reached Iraq via India in search of jobs two years ago, her family members informed. She lost contact with her family in Nepal about six months ago. The deceased's husband Ashok said that he did not know the motive of the suicide and was still in dark how it happened. The correspondence from the Department of Labour in Kathmandu to the DAO mentioned that the Department Of Consular Services, Kathmandu, received letter about the incident from Islamabad-based Nepali Embassy on September 8. The DAO had sent a letter to the rural municipality on October 15, according to the rural municipality chair Tanka Moktan. The family members of Bal had appealed to the Department of Foreign Employment and the Department Of Consular Services to assist in bringing back the body, however, they were told that the process was complex to carry out especially, from the country where the departments have not allowed any employment, local Rajendra Ghising said. Although it costs around Rs 400,000 to bring the body back to Nepal, only Rs 100,000 has been collected with the help of the rural municipality so far. Meanwhile, the effort is on to assist the bereaved Bal family, the rural municipality chair Moktan said. The deceased is succeeded by her five-year-old daughter.
