KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has reiterated its stance on the election of National Assembly. The party’s first Standing Committee meeting held after the provincial and parliamentary elections today urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to pave the way for the formation of the new government as per the fresh public mandate. It also said that the National Assembly election should be held on the basis of first-past-the-post electoral system. The party has objected to the proposal to hold the NA election on the basis of single transferable vote system, which has been provisioned in the ordinance related to National Assembly election submitted to the president by the government. According to the press release issued after the meeting, the party claimed that an agreement had already been reached among parties to adopt majority system for the NA election. The meeting also thanked the voters who voted for the left alliance and the government, Election Commission and other related agencies for successfully holding the elections. The meeting also decided to move ahead the party unification process along with the formation of the new government.
