Haiku fest on Feb 25

KATHMANDU: The National Haiku Festival will be organised for the first time in Nepal on February 25 to mark the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan. Books on Haiku will be displayed and a book titled Andha Alchhi (Haiku collection) will be released at the festival, which will be organised by the Royal Nepal Academy (RNA) and Nepal Nippon Research Centre. Two committees have been formed under the chairmanship of Ram Kumar Pandey and coordination of RNA member Bhuwan Dhungana to mark the occasion. — RSS

Maths expo on cards

KATHMANDU: The Mathematical Educational Council will organise an exhibition of mathematical educational materials from February 21 to 24. A press conference here was told that the exhibition is aimed at showing mathematical instruments that have become imperative for the present-day mathematics. Expressing confidence that the exhibition will be of great help in mathematical teaching, Prof Madan Man Shrestha said one lakh people, including teachers, students and guardians, are expected to take part in the exhibition. There will be 21 stalls exhibiting over 300 mathematical materials in the exhibition that will be held at the academy building. — RSS

Stamps issued

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee, Parashu Narayan Chaudhary, affixed the first cancellation marks on the special commemorative stamps on late King Tribhuvan at a programme organised by the Department of Postal Services here on Friday. A life-size portrait of King Tribhuvan has been portrayed on the stamp, which is of Rs 5 denomination. One million copies of the stamp were issued on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of King Tribhuvan and the 55th National Democracy Day. — RSS
