3 Maoists killed

Hetaunda: Three Maoist cadres were killed as a bomb went off in a local’s house at Sarikhet VDC in southern Makawanpur district on Sunday. In the explosion, three, including a civilian, were injured. — HNS

Climbing wall

Pokhara: French envoy to Nepal, Michel Jolivet, laid the foundation stone for the climbing wall to be constructed on the premises of the International Mountain Museum in Ratopairo, Pokhara, on Monday. The Nepal Mountaineering Association will construct the mountain-shaped wall with financial and technical assistance of the French embassy. — HNS

Maoists bomb DEO

Bardiya: The Maoists detonated two bombs at the Bardiya District Education Office (DEO) on Monday evening, said the District Police Office, Bardiya. According to the police, the Maoists set off two bombs simultaneously at the office. The two-storied rented-building of the DEO was damaged in the twin blasts. Property worth thousands of rupees was damaged in the explosions but details are yet to be reported, police said. —HNS

Plea to OHCHR

Nepalgunj: The Kalikot district committees of the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, through a joint statement, have urged the UN Office of High Commission for Human Rights and other rights bodies to monitor human rights situation in the district. Security men at the Raktadal Company of RNA beat up member of the INSEC and also Kalikot secretary of the FNJ, Kali Bahadur Malla, and chairman of Kalikot Non-government Organisation, Rabindra Bahadur Shahi, on February 13, the statement said. — HNS

‘Maoists’ kill one

NUWAKOT: A group identifying themselves as the ‘Maoists’ has killed one Surya Bahadur Tamang, 55, a resident of Kalyanpur VDC-7, Nuwakot, after abducting him. Tamang was kidnapped on Saturday night and his mutilated body was found in the nearby jungle on Monday, DSP Dinesh Lohani, said. — HNS
