Nepal win maiden int'l medal

Kathmandu, April 4

Nepali women's handball team won maiden international medal as they finished runners-up in the fifth South Asian Handball Championship that concluded in Lucknow, India on Tuesday.

Nepal lost to India 24-5 in their last match of the competition played under round robin format among five countries. Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan were the other three participating teams.

Nepal defeated Bangladesh 26-17, Afghanistan 23-4 and Bhutan 28-4 in their previous matches. Champions India won all four matches, while Bangladesh finished third with two victories.

This is the first international medal for Nepal in women's handball, according to Nepal Handball Association. Skipper Uma Rai, Bandana Rai, Jina Rai, Nisha Rai, Kabita Rai, Shanti Kala Rai, Dev Kumari Baskota, Sangita Chaudhary, Durga Bohara, Parbati Chaudhary, Krishna Chaudhary, Kalpana Oli, Uma Rai, Aita Lhamu Sherpa and Manu Rawat are the members of the Nepali team, while Arun Lal Karna and Ramesh Sapkota are coaches.
