Kapilvastu, March 25:

Vehicular movement on the Mahendra Highway resumed this afternoon after 26 hours.

The irate locals of Pipara VDC of the district had halted traffic on the Highway demanding compensation for the family of Than Bhahadur Thapa, who was knocked to death yesterday by a passenger bus (Lu 1 Kha 2111) bound for Butwal from Krishnanagar.

The locals staged a sit-in on the Highway placing the dead body there.

The area remained tensed following the incident. Traffic resumed after the locals removed the body after holding talks between the parties concerned at the Gorusinghe Area Police Office, and agreed to pay Rs 100,000 as compensation.
