BHOJPUR: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has given assurance to representatives from Bhojpur district that the Armed Police Force (APF) unit located at the border of Bhojpur and Khotang will not be removed. Leaders of political parties from Bhojpur district, on Monday, met with Home Minister Thapa in the capital city with a request to prevent the removal of the APF unit situated at Naagi in Tyamkemaiyum Rural Municipality-4 of Bhojpur district. Home Minister's attention was drawn to the fact that there were talks about APF Headquarters removing the camp from the area. In this context, they requested that the security unit be stationed where it is. In response, Home Minister Thapa assured the group that the unit would not be removed at present. He added that APF personnel were being mobilised as per the new structure and that it was being planned to mobilise them in areas along the international borders. However, a participant who attended the meeting said, Minister Thapa assured them that no decision would be taken until an alternative was sought, keeping in mind the security of the area. The meeting was represented by central members of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Jayanti Rai and Hari Bahadur Rai, leader Durga Rai, youth leader Sharan Kumar Rai, Chief District Officer of Bhojpur Hira Devi Poudel, and President of Federation of Nepali Journalists - Bhojpur Chapter Shyam Krishna Dahal. According to the Chief of Tyamkemaiyum Rural Municipality, Dhurba Raj Rai, locals had provided land to establish the APF camp free of cost while the rural municipality provided support for necessary infrastructure construction. Chief Rai also reasoned that the APF unit must not be removed from the area because it is located at the border of two districts and along the mid-hill highway, and that security in the area had improved after the camp was established there.
