Nuwakot, March 27:

Mistakes in the teachers’ licences have created confusion among the teaching candidates here. In some of the teaching licences issued for the secondary and the lower-secondary level, teaching subjects of the candidates have been mentioned wrongly.

The mistakes might prevent the candidates from fighting for the permanent teaching vacancies. While the wrong mentioning of subject in the licences has confused some teachers, some others are claiming to have been a subject teacher for the subject that has been mentioned in the licence even if it is the wrong one.

Though the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) had provided the licences without mentioning the subject, the district education office had distributed the licences by mentioning the subjects. Teaching subjects have been mentioned in licences of some 2,000 teachers during the last two years, teachers said.

As per the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) regulations, every candidate with required qualification needs to have to months of training to obtain teaching licence for the secondary and the lower secondary levels.

Mentioning of wrong subjects in the licences has developed problems, admitted the District Education Officer of Nuwakot, Geeta Ghimire.

“I am deprived of fighting for the post of account teacher due to the wrong mentioning of my subject in the license,” said Haribansha Ghimire, who has been teaching social studies and account in the school however only one subject, social studies, has been mentioned as his teaching subject in his licence.

While permanent teachers in all government schools are appointed by the Teachers’ Service Commission, schools can appoint temporary teachers as per the curriculum of the commission.

District education officer Ghimire said her office in coordination with the Teachers’ Service Commission has been making efforts to solve the problem of mistakes in the teaching licences.
