PHC begins hearing of proposed envoys

Kathmandu, January 2 The Parliamentary Hearing Committee today began the hearing of proposed ambassadors to five different countries and missions. A meeting of the PHC this morning decided to receive complaints against the proposed ambassadors for 10 days beginning tomorrow, according to member of the House committee Pushpa Bhusal. The Cabinet had nominated five career diplomats as ambassadors to different countries and the United Nations permanent mission in Geneva. Joint Secretary Mani Prasad Bhattarai was named ambassador to the United Nations permanent mission of Nepal in Geneva as well as Switzerland. Joint secretaries Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai, Bhrigu Dhungana, Deepak Adhikari and Durga Prasad Bhandari were nominated as ambassadors to Thailand, Canada, France and Kuwait, respectively. The Cabinet had also decided to recall Arjun Bahadur Singh, Bharat Rayamajhi and Choplal Bhusal as ambassadors to South Korea, Spain and Bangladesh, respectively. Following the approval from the House panel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will write to the respective countries and missions requesting for agremo. After the receipt of the agremo, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari will appoint them as ambassadors. The government had recently recalled ambassadors from South Korea, Spain and Bangladesh, accusing them of poor performance.
