Keep kids off turmoil’

KATHMANDU: The Child Protection Centres and Services (CPCS) has called on the security forces and the political activists not to abuse the street children of Kathmandu during demonstrations. Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the CPCS requested all concerned in the current political turmoil to respect the rights of children, particularly those made vulnerable by their financial and social situation. The Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre also condemned violation of child rights and human rights during the protests. — HNS

Torch rallies staged

KATHMANDU: The ANNFSU on Tuesday took out torch rally in the morning from Baneshwore to Min Bhawan, and torched a trolley bus and two government vehicles, according to Bal Gopal Upadhaya, ANNFSU central committee member. The joint rally of the ANNFSU and NSU, which was taken out from Surya Binayak, vandalised the house of Sumitra Madhikarmi, mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality in Sallaghari, Upadhaya said. Anil Thapa, a student of Sano Thimi Campus, was injured when the security forces intervened in a protest in Gathaghar. — HNS

9 tourists held, freed

KATHMANDU: Police arrested nine tourists from Narsingha Chowk of Thamel on Tuesday afternoon while they were demonstrating for peace in Nepal and demanding the lifting of curfew. Police said they arrested the tourists because they had violated curfew orders. All the tourists were freed from the Sohrakhutte ward police station at around 8:30 pm. — HNS
