Kathmandu, August 30 The Ministry of Health and Population has requested all concerned to extend their help to prevent dengue. “Every individual, each ministry and stakeholder should help us in preventing dengue outbreak.  We also need help of Nepali Army and Nepal Police to prevent dengue infection,” said Spokesperson for MoHP Mahendra Shrestha. “Though the ministry has called on Nepali Army for help, no any official requests have been made yet. Our medical units are prepared for any kind of emergencies. Our medical teams have been studying about dengue cases across the country,” said Bigyan Dev Pandey, spokesperson for Nepali Army. We run medical camps during emergencies even without any requests made from the government, Pandey added. “We have sufficient manpower to search and destroy dengue causing mosquitoes and their larvae, and provide medical assistance for the needy patients. Our medical teams are aware of the situation and are on high alert,” said Pandey. According to Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Teku, number of people suffering from dengue reached 1,537 from July 17 till August 28. “We need to destroy eggs and larvae of the mosquitoes to prevent dengue spread,” said Ghanashyam Pokharel, senior public health administrator at EDCD. Over 60 people contracted dengue in Kathmandu valley as of August 28, according to EDCD. Patients from Imadol, Bafal, Dhapasi, Sorakhutte, Balaju, Nakkhu and Khusibu, among other places, have tested positive for the disease. As many as 42 districts across the nation have been working to contain the outbreak. The dengue virus is transmitted to humans when female Aedes aegypti mosquito bites a person. Its peak biting periods are early morning and before dusk. The symptoms of dengue are high fever, severe headache, pain in the eyes and muscles, bones, rashes and back pain. Destroying mosquito breeding areas and cleanliness are a must measures for dengue control.
