Sundance fest

KATHMANDU: If you want to see 1974 AD, Kutumba, Jerry and Xplozion, Bimal Gurung (Catch 22), Stupa among others together on one stage, then look no further than the Sundance festival to be held on May 27 and 28 at The Last Resort, located close to Tibetan border (three hours drive from here).

Presented by Moksh and The Last Resort, this Sundance fest has been crafted along the lines of Download Donington and Glastonbury and is Nepal’s very own overnight open-air festival with leading singers and musicians heading the performances and acoustics acts in the gardens, spontaneous jam sessions at the pool.

The organisers hope to make this an annual international event and invite you to relax in the festival spirit and enjoy great music lounging in the sun. The stage will be set in a big grass lawn with tents put up to accommodate everyone.

Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join the percussion, bass and guitar workshops on May 28 to discuss, experiment, mix and jam and come up with completely new sounds. (For details, call 4700 525, 4700730)

Water fun

It is time yet again for the much-awaited Hyatt Water Polo Tournament which is an annual event that will once again reunite all corporate houses for a fun filled day. So on May 27, Hyatt invites all corporates to recharge your senses after a hectic week or strengthen your bond with your associates or a team building activity for your employees or simply beat the heat of the summer in the swimming pool. The tournament will start from 9 am and 20 to 30 teams from various corporate houses, institutions, clubs, associations and embassies will be participating in the tournament. Each team will be made up of five participants and one substitute. And here’s the bonus — teams with lady participants will get an advantage goal equal to the number of ladies on the team. Lunch boxes will be provided to all participants. Hi-tea will be followed by prize distribution ceremony.

Rhythm divine

Wake up Biratnagar folks cause the Surya Lights Rhythms Nites is here to rock you on May 27 for the very first time. This Saturday, the Poolside of Complex Pokeman Park will be the place to be to either party or just hang out with friends. The event will see two of Kathmandu’s famous DJs spinning their magic — DJ BMan and DJ P*Yell, Nepal’s first female DJ. The event is being sponsored by Surya Lights and is managed by PartyNepal.com. Battle of bands

If you want to see some of your favourite bands battle it out, then be there at the Bhrikuti Mandap on May 27 from 10:00 am onwards cause it’s the venue for the Battle of the Bands. According to the organisers, 15 bands will be participating in Saturday’s battle while the second phase is scheduled to be held soon. The bands will be playing Nepali or English songs. A panel of three judges will be marking them, while the audience too will get a chance to pick the winner. They can vote for the best band on back of their tickets and drop those in the ballot box. The event is organised by Dibya Soch. Tickets (Rs 50) are available at all Nanglo outlets, Nepa Music, Tiffin House.
