Kathmandu, May 27 :
Leaders of the seven-party alliance and a member of the Maoist talks team today said the government-Maoist talks teams should make public their agenda for the next round of talks for open discussion.
Speaking at the Reporters’ Club, standing committee member of the CPN-UML Bamdev Gautam said the agenda of next round of talks should be the arms management of both the sides and process and modalities for constituent assembly polls.
A member of the Maoist talks team, Dinanath Sharma, said both the sides could come
up with code of conduct for ceasefire due to mutual trust.
“We decided to move ahead with the political parties to save the country from being termed a failed-state,” Sharma said at the Reporters’ Club.
Sharma said the recently agreed code of conduct was the fallout of their long parleys with Girija Prasad Koirala and Madhav Kumar Nepal and other leaders of the seven-party alliance.
“Present peace talks are not taking place between the establishment and opposition. We are sitting together to find lasting solution to the problem. We will go together as we did during the recent peoples’ movement,” said Maoist talks team member Sharma, adding that they would set their agenda in the next round of talks.
He, however, made it clear that the reinstatement of the House of Representatives was not a Maoist agenda, as it does not represent them and the civil society.
He stressed the need to dissolve the House of Representatives, hold broader political conference, form an interim government and then go for an election to a constituent assembly.
“The next round of talks will sort out our differences and we will move ahead with a new vision,” he said, adding that a new approach was required to create “new Nepal”.
