Kathmandu, April 19:

Lava Kumar Devkota, secretary of culture, tourism and civil aviation inaugurated the new building of Nepal Copyright Registar Office (NCRO) at a function held at the premises of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal here today. Speaking at the programme, Devkota said that NCRO would play a vital role in preventing piracy of intellectual property. Though the policy for corporate property right was endorsed in 2002, there was no separate office to look into related matters. The establishment of NRCO is one more step taken by the government to help preserve individual creativity which would help ideas from being copied illegally.

'This government step is praiseworthy. If NRCO could meet the expectations of the public, then it would be something to be proud of,' said Devkota.

NRCO is an autonomous body which would protect and regulate all copyright assessment and prevent illegal reproduction of the creativity of an individual. Santosh Sharma, general secretary of the copyright protection society said that NCRO would be coordinating with the World Intellectual Property Organisation to preserve and stop piracy of such ideas. 'NCRO would help protect ideas and inventions. It would facilitate the decision making process of the appellate courts regarding copyrights once works are registered here,' said Sharma.
