Enough is never enough! That’s what you’d conclude after relishing this cornocopia collection of dreamwork characters who rise viciously to the occasion of taking a little bit of jive at human foibles. Spewing spiteful profanities at the gluttony of human animals, this time they are prepared to teach humans a hard lesson. Seen from the standpoint of animals threatened with the invasion of sprawling suburbia, there’s no other alternative save to learn to coexist in the internecine battle for survival. It’s time now that humans learn to treat animals with some respect!
With the advent of spring, the animals in the wood awake after the long winter hibernation. But before they begin their forage to keep enough of what they’d need for another winter, they find, to their ,shock that the forest has been invaded.
Enter RJ the raconteur racoon (voiced by Bruce Willis), who seems to be the only animal, with greed to match his human counterparts. The predicament of the huckster itself is the leitmotif that resonates throughout the movie ‘Take what you need’, that humans just don’t seem to take heed of.
But there’s no match for the monster that’s called greed. And the trickster tempts the entire tribe with the nacho cheese chip, to redeem himself of his own impending nemesis from Vincent the Bear. And we’re introduced to an endearing bunch of members of the tribe, which includes a meek but sagacious turtle (Garry Shandling); an overly theatrical porcupine family; a susceptible squirrel (Steve Carell) and a Skunk (Wanda Sykes) who are all roped in to pilfer goodies from gluttons of suburbia.
The high point of the movie is of course its characterisation and visual opulence quintessential to DreamWorks production. And though the characterisation isn’t executed with a distinctive dexterity, they are flawlessly unblemished – charming enough to keep you glued to your seats until you enjoy them outsmart their archenemies.
Brimming with biting invectives, the magnificent show of animation marvels and the ensemble cast who’ve rendered the voice with brilliant finesse, it’s should be one helluva popcorn pleasure.
