Kathmandu, August 4:

Maoists have threatened the executive editor of the Kavre-based Chesta weekly, Ram Saran Bajgain, a statement issued by Media Monitors said today.

Gajgain has been directed to appear in the Maoists’ “People’s Court” to clarify on a news item that was published in his newspaper, the statement said. Dapcha Area in-charge of the Maoists, Bhola Aryal, sent Bajgain a message on Wednesday saying that a complaint regarding the article has been registered at the “District Court” and that he should appear before it.

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the incident. It said that there is a legal body to investigate news items published in newspapers in case of a disagreement.
