Pokhara, August 31 :

RPP chairman Pashupati SJB Rana said today that his party has been holding discussions on a number of issues, including its stance on the monarchy.

The confusion, which surfaced during the drafting of the interim constitution has given rise to suspicion on the possibility of holding elections to a constituent assembly, he said.

“Rather than dissolving the parliament without making an alternative arrangement, the parliament should be made stronger by involving the Maoists in it,” Rana said at a face-to-face programme organised by the Reporters’ Club (Kaski) in Pokhara.

“The RPP has begun informal discussions with the objectives of reviewing the party’s stance on the monarchy and changing the party statute to suit the changed political scenario.”

“Discussions have been going on on the party’s stance monarchy in the party. The details of discussions cannot be disclosed now,” said Rana.

Asked about the management of weapons, Rana said, “Nobody disarms if he feels disarming will make him insecure. Security should be ensured to the Maoists if they wish to disarm,” said Rana.

He added that his party had taken positively the possible role of the UN in weapons management.

He blamed the government for not being able to maintain law and order.
