Nepal is a place of cultural diversity, meaning it is a country made up of people from many cultures and many traditions. But what is culture?
Culture is a way of life; it is a person’s lifestyle.
For example, Nepalis eat food with hand because it is our culture. Culture is that which differentiates us from ‘other’ people as everyone’s culture is not same.
The study of culture is called anthropology where one studies about a person’s culture. So, what is heritage?
Heritage is the pride of a country and its people. Swoyambhunath, Pasupatinath, Lumbini, Changunarayan are examples of our heritage. They have a great significance in Nepali society and considered the diamonds of heritage of our country.
Cultural heritage sites were built in ancient periods by our ancestors. They are the proof of the lifestyle of all Nepalis. The preservation and conservation of our heritage and heritage sites are our responsibility. — Pallavi Shakya, Class VIII, Saurdeep Boarding School, Kathmandu
