Dy PM Oli meets Manmohan Singh

Kathmandu, September 17 :

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, KP Sharma Oli, today met Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the 14th NAM Summit in Havana, Cuba.

The Indian prime minister inquired about the ongoing peace process in Nepal and the progress made in talks with the Maoists. The Deputy Prime Minister briefed the Indian Prime Minister on these issues, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Singh said India wanted to see peace prevail in Nepal as it would be in the interest of both the countries. Matters of bilateral interest and concern also figured in the meeting. Earlier today, Oli met the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe. In the meeting, the two leaders shared information on various aspects of economic and political developments taking place in their respective countries. Oli briefed Mugabe on the recent political changes and the ongoing peace process in Nepal. Nepal’s candidacy for the non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for 2007-2008 also figured in the discussions. Mugabe assured that his government would look into the matter in positive light.

Likewise, Oli held a meeting today with the President of the Republic of Bolivia, Evo Ayma Morales. The deputy prime minister urged Morales to extend support to Nepal’s candidacy for the non-permanent UN seat. Morales said that his government would consider the matter. Matters of mutual concerns and interest were also discussed in the meeting.
