Nobel Academy win

KATHMANDU: Nobel Academy, the Nepali U-17 team, crushed Tamil Nadu team 10-0 in the 46th Subroto Mukherjee Cup Inter-school Football Tournament in New Delhi today. Nirajan Malla and Chetan Ghimire struck a hat-trick each while Bharat Khawas, Prabin Karki, Roshan Karki and Ranjit scored a goal each. On Sunday, the Nepali team beat Jammu & Kashmir 14-1. They will take on Manipur in the last league match on Tuesday. — HNS

Volleyball tourney

KATHMANDU: Burtibang Rising Youth Club is organising the Men and Women’s Open Volleyball Tournament from October 6. In all, 22 men’s teams will vie for the Rs 11,111 championship while a total of 15 women teams will fight for the Rs 5,555 title. The club will also felicitate Prem Bhandari, Krishna Sherchan and president of Dhorpatan Sports Trainning Centre Manbir Chhantyal for their contribution for the development of sport. — HNS

Committee formed

KATHMANDU: National Sports Council formed a nine-member ad-hoc committee of the Nepal Golf Association on Monday. Pradeep Kumar Shrestha was nominated as the president while Tashi Ghale is the vice-president and Bijay Moktan the secretary. Sahudraj Ghimire was nominated the treasurer. Other members included Purna Bahadur Rai, Finjo Lama, Gopal Chitrakar, Ang Chhiring Sherpa and Rabindra Shrestha. The NSC has given the strict mandate of three months to the ad-hoc committee for holding the elections. — HNS

Inter-Chyasal football

LALITPUR: Machhapuchhre Group and Dhaulagiri Group won their respective matches on the opening day of the sixth Inter-Chyasal Open Football Tournament, which has been organised by Chyasal Youth Club. Machhapuchhre defeated Kanchanjangha 4-1 and Dhaulagiri beat Sagarmatha Group 3-1. Ravi Maharjan scored twice and Bhola Byanjankar and Jitendra Byanjankar scored one each for Machhapuchhre while Rakesh Byanjankar pulled back one for Kanchanjangha. Shanker Byanjankar struck twice and Keshar Man Byanjankar added another for Dhaulagiri while Sanjay Byanjankar scored for Sagarmatha. Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum president Niranjan Rajbansi inaugurated the four-team tournament. — HNS

Buddha Air triumph

KATHMANDU: Buddha Air defeated Rotary Club of Narayanghat 6-3 in the final of the Five-a-side Corporate Beach Football Tournament, organised by Abir Management in Kurintar, Dhading. Dipesh Thapa — who was declared the man of the tournament — struck twice, while Naresh Thapa, DB Basnet, Jayaram KC and Parasar Jung Pande scored one goal apiece for Buddha Air. Anil Shrestha netted a hat-trick for Rotary Club and became the highest scorer of the tournament with nine goals. Nanglo International, Everest Bank, Nepal Pharmaceutical and Shikhar Insurance also took part in the event. — HNS
