Dipayal, October 17:
The dispute between Dalits and non-Dalits over the formers’ entry into Shaileshwori temple in Dipayal was resolved today. The Dalits had been trying to enter the temple to offer puja while non-Dalits were opposing their move. A meeting among political parties, Dalit struggle committee, Shaileshwori Temple Development Committee and journalists yesterday reached an agreement to allow the Dalits to worship in the temple.
Both the Dalits and non-Dalits have agreed to organise a joint pooja on October 19, said Sita Ram Shrestha, who participated in the meeting. A formal programme will be held on Shaileshwori temple premises, said Dharma BK of the Dalit Struggle Committee. The non-Dalits regretted for misbehaving with the Dalits and journalists and decided to follow the understanding reached on September 16. The meeting also agreed to ensure representation of both the Dalits and non-Dalits in the Shaileshwor Temple Development Committee. They signed the agreement promising social harmony and fraternity in future.
