New Delhi, November 28:

The West Bengal government has withdrawn all charges against two senior leaders of the CPN (Maoist), Mohan Baidya alias Kiran and Chandra Prakash Gajurel alias Gaurav. They are imprisoned in an Indian jail.

District Magistrate R Ranjit summoned Baidya’s and Gajurel’s advocate Anup Mitra to his office and handed him over the document, stating that the government has withdrawn all the charges against the duo.

Mitra told this daily: “DM has handed over the relevant document stating that all the charges against the duo are withdrawn. I am also told that the local court will send a letter to

the government attorney in Jalpaigudi on Wednesday ordering him to withdraw the cases.”

“Now that the government attorney has withdrawn cases in the local court, we will appeal to the court for their release.

After we receive ‘clearance’ from the court, both are likely to be freed this week,” Mitra said.

In accordance with India’s criminal procedure code’s article 321, the court will issue a release order after the government attorney’s appeal to those who have clearance from the government.
