Besisahar, December 16:

CPN-UML standing committee member Amrit Kumar Bohara today said that monarchy is existing in the country due to the Nepali Congress. He also termed Nepali Congress as a “status quo” party.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Lamjung chapter of Press Chautari Nepal here, Bohara, said: “The monarchy is existing due to the elements of status quo and those elements that have a dominant role in the government.” He claimed that restructuring of the nation is impossible as long the monarchy continues. He stressed the need for unity among supporters of democracy in order to abolish monarchy from the country.

“There is a need for establishing lasting peace as per the sentiments of people in order to lead the nation towards the path of progress,” Bohara said. “Feudalism is still active in the country; so, there is the need for being alert against feudalism,” he said.

“Though there is disagreement among the eight political parties on minor issues, there is no disagreement on major issues. The minor disagreements do not affect the election of constituent assembly,” he said.

Pointing to the report of the Rayamajhi Commission, Bohara said: “The report of the Rayamajhi Commission should be made public and action must be taken against the guilty persons. We should put pressure on the government for the implementation of the report.” Saying that journalism is the eye of society, Bohara stressed the need for making the journalistic sector honest and independent.
