Madrid, December 19:
Midfielder Fernando Gago’s transfer from Boca Juniors to Real Madrid is on hold because talks are deadlocked over the fee.
Boca president Mauricio Macri has returned to Buenos Aires following fruitless talks with Madrid counterpart Ramon Calderon in the Spanish capital, news reports said on Tuesday. Macri is said to want $27.6 million for Gago, while Madrid is prepared to pay $23.7 million.
Gago, who played in Boca’s loss to Estudiantes in last Wednesday’s playoff for the Argentine title, has reportedly already agreed to personal terms with Madrid and is ready to sign a 6 and a half year contract. Madrid hopes to make midfielder its third signing for the January transfer window. It signed River Plate striker Gonzalo Higuain for $17 million last week after acquiring Marcelo from Fluminense for $7.85 million last month.
