League resumes on Jan 26

KATHMANDU: The Martyrs Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football will resume from January 26 at the Dasharath Stadium, All Nepal Football Association said today. The league was indefinitely postponed from Sunday following a strike called by the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE). As FNNTE called off its transportation strike on Tuesday, ANFA has rescheduled the matches resuming from Friday. Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club in the first match and Nabil Three Star Club will play Armed Police Force (APF) officers’ Club. — HNS

Brilliant enter final

KATHMANDU: Brilliant Multiple Campus entered the final after beating Ideal Modal College 4-2 in tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw at the first e-Planet Cup Inter-college Football Tournament today. Dil Kumar Khadka put Brilliant Campus ahead in the eighth minute before Rajesh Pariyar extended the match to tie-breaker equalising in the 66th minute. Ramesh Basnet scored a solitary goal as Pashupati Multiple Campus beat Xavier International College 1-0 to secure the semi-final berth. Pashupati Campus will play Nepal Commerce College for the berth for the final. — HNS

Lainchaur NSKA object

KATHMANDU: Nepal Shito-Ryo Karate Association (NSKA), Lainchaur Dojo raised a serious objection against Japan Goju-Ryo Karate Kenwakai Nepal Association (JGKNA) for luring their players. In a release, the NSKA blamed the JGKNA secretary Asmita Gurung to have lured their players to participate in a tournament to be held in Butwal. “They have stolen our players by ensuring them of paving the way to Japan and we seek strong action from Nepal Karate Federation against the culprit,” the NSKA, Lainchaur Dojo added in a release. — HNS

Prizes distributed

BHAKTAPUR: The 10th South Asian Games gold medallist in Karate, Sulochana Sijakhwa and Olympic runner Kanchhi Maya Koju on Tuesday handed over medals, shields and certificates to the winners of the Sunshine School Sports Week. The school organised competitions in Chess, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cricket, Football, Long Jump, High Jump and Cross Country were given away the prizes. Addressing the function, the sports stars underscored the importance of sports and other extra-curricular activities in the school level for the all-round development of students.
