Bamboo is a kind of a wood, found in the tropical and sub-tropical climates of South Asia, America, Africa and Australia. The height of a bamboo tree ranges from 1-50 metres. The leaves of a bamboo tree are thin and flat with a pointed tip. A bamboo tree has a single and hollow trunk, which is called culms. Bamboo stems are developed from underground rhizomes. The most interesting feature about a bamboo tree is that it grows 60 centimetres per day.

The uses of a bamboo tree in our daily lives are diverse. Its uses to human beings range from the cradle to the grave. There are also other uses of bamboo in daily lives like for constructing houses, cottages, rafts, bridges. Bamboo can also be used for making baskets, hats, fish traps et cetera.

The culms can be used as a vessel or container in order to store liquids. Bamboo is also used to make paper.

In Nepal, the young shoots of the bamboo tree are eaten as a delicacy.
