Kathmandu, March 23:

The STM Telecom Sanchar today organised a function to mark the establishment of over 1,400 public call offices (PCOs) in the rural areas of eastern Nepal.

With the establishment of over 1,400 PCOs in the rural areas, it has exceeded the license obligations set by the government, that it should set up 1068 PCOs, a press statement issued by the STM Telecom Sanchar said.

“The STM group has been a consistent and prominent player in the rural telephony scenario, having set up more than 200 networks worldwide and it had to deliver through the same experience in Nepal,” said Abhinav Puri, CEO of the STM.

He said that STM phones in rural areas have helped business activities in villages.

“STM has done an exemplary job by providing telephones in rural areas, which has been the nation’s priority and we hope that they will put more efforts in serving the other un-served rural areas also in the future,” the release quoted Dilendra Badu, State Minister for Information and Communications, as saying at the function.
